Mentor Partners, Big Rapids MI

In November 2016, the Operations Manager at a four station cluster in Big Rapids Michigan unexpectedly resigned to become a teacher, leaving owner/GM Jeff Scarpelli only two weeks to find a replacement.  Rather than make a rash decision, or stretch his already small staff even further, he called Mark.  Over the next six weeks, Mark took residence at the station, filling in all the roles (PD, OM, Production and Morning Show Host), keeping the station operating smoothly.  In early December with Mark's help, Mentor Partners found the right person to hire and asked Mark to remain involved briefly to assist in the training of the replacement.   And was very pleased at the results.

"Mark, thank you for coming in and helping with the programming and management transition at Mentor Partners, Inc.'s radio group in Big Rapids, MI.  When our long time operations manager/morning drive talent gave us two weeks notice before leaving here, we knew it would be a daunting task to replace him at all much less in two short weeks.  Your immediate help and ability to stand in for that position, bought enough time to conduct a though search for a replacement. You were steady, calm, insightful and made yourself immediately familiar with all of our systems and this made the transition the smoothest imaginable.  Great job! Thanks again."

Mark Elliott in the Press

• (November 1, 2016) After 10+ years with Mentor Partners' Hot AC WYBR (Y102)/Big Rapids, MI, OM/morning personality Brian Goodenow is stepping down to become an instructor at a local tech school. Owner/GM Jeff Scarpelli said, "Brian is the ultimate professional and his hard work and dedication will be missed." Goodenow's career change means a great opportunity is now available for someone with multi-format programming skills, social media expertise and great attention to detail to step into an OM role over four stations -- Hot AC WYBR, Country WWBR (Big Country 100.9), News-Talk WBRN-AM and Classic Rock Rewind 99.1 (WWBR-HD2) as well as host the morning show on WYBR. Qualified candidates are invited to send their packages to Jeff Scarpelli at ASAP.

In the interim, Columbus, OH-based programming pro Mark Elliott has graciously agreed to step into the role of interim OM of the cluster. "I've known Jeff for a long time and am happy to help him out during the transition," Elliott said. "Plus. I'm looking forward to seeing a few Ferris State Bulldogs hockey games!"
Elliott was most recently PD/morning personality for Cumulus Classic Hits WRQN/Toledo, OH. His resume includes seven years as PD of South Central Media's WIKY/Evansville, IN, an earlier stint with Northern Broadcast Group in Traverse City, MI and he runs his own consultancy, Radio One 2 One. Elliott can be reached at 812-629-8282 or

• (December 16, 2017) Erik Etchison is the newly named Operations Manager for Mentor Partners' Hot AC WYBR (Y-102) & WWBR (Big Country 100.9)/Big Rapids, MI. He will also do mornings on Y-102. Etchison is a Michigan native who was most recently with Saga in Harrisonburg, VA, preceded by a stint in mornings at WMOM/Ludington, MI. Etchison said, "I'm really excited to take this step in furthering my career in broadcasting and incredibly thankful to [Mentor Partners Owner] Jeff Scarpelli and Mentor Partners for granting me this opportunity."

Etchison's arrival marks the end of Mark Elliott's triumphant reign as interim Operations Manager. "I've had fun up here with the folks from Big Country and Y102," Elliott said. "I'm very complimented that Jeff Scarpelli reached out to me to help." Elliott will now trudge through the snow back home to Columbus, OH, but is available after the first of the year on a per-project basis anywhere in the U.S. He can be easily contacted at 812-629-8282 or

WIKY Evansville

There is no bigger job in radio than taking over an already successful radio station and keeping it on top, but that's just what Mark did at WIKY Evansville.  Over his seven year programming leadership, WIKY maintained its Number One Nielsen status, as well as winning numerous awards (NAB Crystal and Marconi, Radio and Records "Station of the Year" and "Best Local Station" from the Evansville Courier & Press.)  And comes highly recommended by his general manager.

"When it comes to broadcasting Mark has wealth of experience and knowledge.  Over the years we worked together I found him to be a great strategist and an invaluable resource.  If you are looking for a multi-faceted broadcast professional then Mark needs to be on your short list."
